Back Pain
The lower back is an intricate structure of connected and overlapping tendons, muscles, joints, discs, and soft tissues. It is also made up of highly sensitive nerves and nerve roots that start in the lower back and connect into the feet. All these parts make it easy for something to go wrong. An irritation with any of these structures can cause lower back pain, or referred pain to other parts of the body.
Identifying the symptoms, along with an accurate diagnosis of the underlying cause of the pain is the first step towards obtaining effective pain relief. Symptoms may include difficulty walking or standing, muscle spasms, localized soreness, and much more.
Likely Causes of Back Pain
- New or old spine injuries due to trauma to discs, nerve, facet joints, vertebral or musculoskeletal structures
- Improper exercise (resulting in a strain or tear) or sporting injuries
- Disc prolapses / disc herniation/ bulging discs/ degenerative discs / disc tears
- Degenerative spine arthritic conditions; osteoporosis (brittle bones that result in a vertebrae fracture) of the spine
- Scoliosis (abnormal curvature of the spine can cause back pain)
- Kyphosis (excessive forward curvature of the spine causing hunching of the back)
- Spondylolisthesis (a painful medical condition of the spine whereby one of the vertebrae slips forward or backward; symptoms include lower back or leg pain,
- Hamstring tightness, numbness, and tingling in the legs.)
